About Heart and Sol

Communication is about more than words. It’s about being seen, understood, and connected.

Meet Heart and Sol

Heart & Sol Speech Therapy is a small, heart-led private practice founded by Josie, a pediatric speech-language pathologist serving children ages 0–5 and their families. Josie specializes in early intervention and early childhood speech and language development, with a focus on supporting the whole child — communication, regulation, play, and connection. She believes that young children learn best through meaningful relationships and everyday routines, and that parents and caregivers are essential partners in the therapy process. At Heart & Sol, therapy is never rushed or one-size-fits-all. Sessions are child-led, play-based, and rooted in evidence-based practices, while remaining flexible to meet each family where they are. Josie works closely with caregivers to provide practical strategies that feel doable, supportive, and empowering — not overwhelming. Heart & Sol Speech Therapy proudly offers bilingual support for Spanish-speaking families and is committed to neurodiversity-affirming care. Differences in communication are respected and honored, and therapy is guided by the goal of helping children build confidence, connection, and functional communication in ways that feel authentic to them. Josie’s role is not to “fix” children, but to walk alongside families — offering guidance, education, and encouragement as children grow, communicate, and blossom.

A Relationship-Centered Approach To Care

A Note From Your Therapist

I believe communication is about more than words. It’s about feeling seen, understood, and connected to ourselves and to the people around us. This belief is at the heart of everything I do as a speech-language pathologist.

Early in my training and work across hospital, clinic, and home-based settings, I noticed how often children were expected to “perform” before they felt safe, regulated, or ready. Families were doing their best, yet often felt unsure how to support communication outside of therapy sessions. These experiences shaped the way I practice today.

You don’t need to have all the answers to support your child’s communication. My goal is to meet you where you are and help you feel confident, capable, and supported every step of the way.

Communication allows us to connect, create, explore, and navigate the world around us. Every child deserves to be heard and understood, and my role is to empower children and their families with the tools, confidence, and support they need to communicate in ways that feel meaningful and authentic.

The Heart and Sol Approach

The Heart and Sol approach to therapy is guided by a few core principles that shape how sessions are structured and how families are supported.

Therapy is child-led and play-based.
Rather than asking children to perform on demand, sessions are built around play, movement, and shared activities that feel natural and engaging. This allows communication skills to emerge in ways that are meaningful and natural.

Regulation and connection come first.
I prioritize emotional safety, connection, and regulation as the foundation for communication. When children feel calm, supported, and understood, learning becomes more accessible.

Caregivers are active participants.
Therapy is not something that happens to your child — it happens with your family. I model strategies, explain the “why” behind them, and support caregivers in using tools that fit naturally into daily routines.

Progress is flexible and individualized.
There is no one-size-fits-all timeline. Goals are shaped by your child’s strengths, needs, and developmental pace, and are adjusted as your child grows.

Through this approach, therapy feels collaborative, respectful, and sustainable — supporting communication that carries over into everyday life.
